Mission Statement

The purpose of this blog is simple.  As I've dug deeper into the world of early typewriters — and, especially, attempting to clean and repair them — I've found myself scattered left and right trying to keep track of all the relevant resources.  I've also found to be true what you might expect: the older or rarer the typewriter, the fewer practical write ups there are about working on one.  In my journey thus far, I've been saved a couple times by fellow bloggers: some professionals - like Lucas Dul of Typewriter Chicago - and some amateur — like I am — just trying to forge a path back through time.  I thought it appropriate that I might do my best to give back.

So this is my statement of intent: I want to provide a place to aggregate what I've learned and the resources I've found to draw from as well as document my process through cleaning and repairing these machines of a different era.  Particularly, I want to provide documentation for anything I either had to figure out myself or just learn the hard way.  There are numerous other more thorough or professional resources for many of these topics, so instead of retreading those grounds I hope to mostly help fill in the gaps.  Finally, I just want to clarify that I do not proclaim to offer the correct answers or processes especially as it relates to repair and maintenance as I'm merely an amateur doing his best to bumble along.  My goal is just to provide whatever insights I can (good or bad) and perhaps even rely on Cunningham's Law to set me straight.
